Wat Traimit Witthayaram Worawihan, also known as Wat Sam Chin, is a second-class royal monastery located in the heart of Yaowarat, Bangkok. This temple is famous for housing the Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakorn, or the Golden Buddha, which is the largest solid gold Buddha statue in the world.
It is believed that Wat Traimit was constructed during the Rattanakosin era by three Chinese men, which is the origin of the name “Wat Sam Chin.” What made this temple internationally renowned is the accidental discovery of the Golden Buddha in 1951, hidden beneath a layer of plaster.
Phra Phuttha Mahasuwanna Patimakorn
